Ableton Link setup

Two minutes, no cables.

Steps

  1. Same Wi-Fi for every device (a phone hotspot works; office networks that block multicast do not).
  2. Sonyk: Settings → LINK. A peer count appears when a session is found.
  3. Live: Preferences → Link/Tempo/MIDI → Show Link toggle, then click Link in the top-left of the main window.
  4. Press play in either. Sonyk waits for the next bar and lands on the 1.

Troubleshooting

  • Peer count stays 0 — a VPN or “AP isolation” on the router blocks the multicast session. Try a hotspot.
  • Tempo follows but bars drift — that is not Link; check the record’s beat grid in EDIT → GRID.
  • The transport stopped by itself — a peer sent stop. Turn off start/stop sync in Sonyk’s Link settings if you want your transport to be yours.
Link is local-network only, by design. For collaboration over the internet use Sonyk Together (Pro).
